GBMC is located at Main Hospital 6701 N. Charles St Towson, MD 21204. Patients in labor should come to the Obstetrics entrance and go to the registration desk in the OB Atrium. Vehicles dropping off patients in labor may temporarily park in specially marked parking spaces near the Obstetrics entrance.
What providers support deliveries at Greater Baltimore Medical Center?
Registered nurses, Advanced practitioners, OB physician attending, and OB surgical technicians are all offered at GBMC.
Can I take a tour of labor and delivery at Greater Baltimore Medical Center?
The hospital does offer tours, however due to COVID-19, in-person events are currently not taking place. You can attend the Virtual tour to learn more about the hospital.
What options are available during birth at Greater Baltimore Medical Center?
At GBMC options for labor include Urgent and Emergency Care for Pregnant Women, Natural Vaginal Deliveries, Cesarean Section Deliveries, D&C Procedures, Cervical Sutures, Tubal Ligations, Emergency Postpartum Hysterectomies, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, and Anesthesiology.
Can I eat during labor?
We recommend eating prior to arriving at the hospital, and talking to your provider about what they recommend while you’re in labor. Generally, you can expect to be offered a clear liquid diet, that includes things like broth, jello, popsicles and ginger ale.
How many people can be with me in labor?
Five visitors are allowed during labor and three during delivery. Two visitors will be allowed in the OR or PACU area. Check the updates for COVID-19 procedures as this has changed.
What are my options for cesarean birth?
One support person is allowed in the operating room during a cesarean birth.
Is there a lactation consultant at Medstar Southern Maryland Hospital?
Yes there are GBMC lactation consultants available to you after your delivery. A breast pump is also offered to patients to use in the hospital or rented to bring home. GBMC also offers a telephone “Warmline” (443-849-3428) breastfeeding related questions and advice are offered at no fee.
How has COVID19 affected the hospital policies at Greater Baltimore Medical Center?

Visitor policies have been limited due to COVID-19. Each patient and visitor will be screened for COVID-19 upon arrival and you will be expected to wear a mask for the duration of your stay as well as following social distance guidelines.
Can I have a doula at Greater Baltimore Medical Center?
One visitor in the triage room. One visitor (support coach/significant other) in the birthing room, operating room and PACU area. An alternate visitor will be documented in the EMR upon admission that may be utilized in the event of an emergency. Both visitors are to be documented in the EMR as the Visitor. One visitor during the outpatient surgical procedures.
