It’s HOT outside. Personally, summer is my favorite time of year. I think it’s because I tend to be a very sweaty lady, and summer is like the great equalizer.
But while I’m witness to amazing summer births, as your doula, I don’t have to be pregnant in the midst of the humidity in DC, MD or VA. And because our postpartum and infant care doula clients are so young, I don’t have children to entertain all day long when the summer heat means sending them in the backyard to play isn’t an option.
My heart goes out to those of your looking for some family fun, and ways to avoid hearing the words “I’m bored!”
It seems like whether your kids are 2, 12 or 22 (is generation Z hanging out at home like us Millenials did?), the key to summer parenting is to find things to do that keep the kids alive, and the grown ups relatively sane.
Want a recommendation from a doula? Get out of the house! Pack up some sunscreen, bathing suits and towels, and check out some of our local splash parks.
After all, it seems like our whole DC metro area is humid enough that you can drink the air. Might as well get into the water!
Here are a few recommendations for splash parks in the DC Metro Area, approved by local moms.
- Great Waves at Cameron Run, in Alexandria, Virginia
- Glenndale Splash, in Glenndale, MD
- Chesapeake Beach Water Park, in Chesapeake Beach, MD
- Water Park at Bohrer Park, Gaithersburg, MD
Watching children enjoy the water is absolutely amazing. And watching their mothers and fathers get in on the fun is even better.
So if you’re tired of listening to the sounds of kids music from the tablet, go splash around, and remember that summer is supposed to be fun!
If you do need some help with that whole “pregnant in the summertime” thing, or your kids are still babies, we’re happy to help with doula services too.
